Is Jesus God? Part 4: "God is not a man"

By: Shannon Abulnasr © 2017 Dawahmaterials.com

Return to Part 3 - "Others were called son of God"

Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know.”

God gave Jesus miracles, wonders and signs…they didn’t come from Jesus himself. God performed the miracles THROUGH him, just as he did miracles through other prophets.

Acts 17:31 “For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead."

God states he appointed a MAN, which clearly separates the two entities.  God doesn’t need to appoint himself.

Hosea 11:9 “I will not carry out my fierce anger, nor will I devastate Ephraim again. For I am God, and not a man-- the Holy One among you. I will not come against their cities.”

God states again that he is not a man.

Isaiah 42:8 “I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images.”

Several important points in this verse: 1-God says that “LORD” is his name.  He doesn’t say his name is Jesus. 2- He will not give his glory to any other. This contradicts John 8:54 , John 17:5 , Matthew 16:27 , Matthew 25:31 , Matthew 24:30 , 2 Corinthians 4:4, and others. 3- No praise is to be given to images.  Christians today have statues of Christ, especially amongst Catholics, that they bow down to praise and glorify him.  It is idol worship.

John 8:40 “As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.”

Jesus states he is just a man, delivering the message of God.

Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I change not”

God does not change, thus he doesn’t become a man. Jesus does change - he was even circumcised.  Does God need to remove excess skin?

Numbers 23:19 “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?” (NIV)

“God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (ESV)

This is about as clear as it can get…God is not a human. If you look at various other translations, it says he is not a man, nor son of mankind. Most translations say the latter.  Jesus was a man, he ate, drank, used the bathroom, and couldn’t do things himself that only God could do.  Jesus was also son of mankind, and in numerous verses elsewhere it even states he was son of MAN.

1 Samuel 15:29  He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind."

God states he is not even a human being. Jesus was a human being, born from another human being, thus he can’t be God.  Is it possible for God to be born from a human? Wouldn’t that make Mary, mother of Jesus the “Creator” of God? God is not created by humans, God created humans.

1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus”

This verse states that Jesus is a man, differentiating himself from God.  Does God need a mediator? Is God not capable of doing things by himself and hearing people?

Qur’an 4:171 “O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Allah is not having a trinity, as he does not need help. Jesus was a messenger (given the word of God) and prophet.  Allah is one without partners, nor does he have a son. He can manage things by himself.

Qur’an 5:75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.”

Jesus is the Messiah ((anointed one (blessed and chosen by God), which does not = God)), was only a messenger like others before him. Allah states Jesus ate food because God does not need food, to differentiate the idea that Jesus is part of a trinity as God.

Qur’an 6:102 “That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.”

There is no deity – only Allah. (meaning no helpers or other forms of Allah)

Qur’an 6:100-103 “To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: How can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created all things, and He hath full knowledge of all things. That is Allah, your Lord! there is no god but He, the Creator of all things: then worship ye Him: and He hath power to dispose of all affairs. No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with all things.”

This verse tells us many things: 1- Allah does not have a son. 2- Allah knows all things and sees all things. 3- There is no deity but Allah. 4- Allah is the judge of all affairs. 5- No one can see God (in this Earthly life). 6- He is above comprehension, meaning that Allah is nothing like anything we can imagine.

Qur’an 6:106 “Follow, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allah.”

Allah tells Muhammad that there is no God but Allah, and not associate with those that worship anyone or anything else.

Qur’an 9:30-31 “The Jews say, "Ezra is the son of Allah"; and the Christians say, "The Messiah is the son of Allah." That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved [before them]. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded? They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.”

Allah explains how Jews said God had a son named Ezra. (Some of the Jews claimed this, but not all of them). The Christians claimed Jesus was his son, and the Christians went to the extent to claim Jesus was God.  He explains that they are only following the teachings of people, and not God, because God told them to only worship HIM.

Qur’an 10:68-69 They have said, "Allah has taken a son." Exalted is He; He is the [one] Free of need. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. You have no authority for this [claim]. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know? Say, "Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed."

Allah rebukes those that claim he had a son, as if he needed help, or needed a son at all.

Qur’an 19:29-30 “So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”

Allah (God) has told us that Jesus was indeed a servant of God, a messenger and prophet.

Qur’an 19:34-35 “That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.”

Allah says Jesus was son of Mary (son of mankind), and that Allah does not need a son, because he is all-powerful by himself. He can command something and it is done.

Qur’an 25:3 “But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or resurrection.”

Allah rebukes those that worship others (creation), who are not able to create anything. Jesus was creation, yet by miraculous way, but still created, and should not be worshipped, because he is part of creation.

Qur’an 27:9 “O Moses, indeed it is I - Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

Allah tells Moses, that He (God) is Allah. Allah tells his name so that he is not to be confused as any other.

Qur’an 42:11 “[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”

Allah states that there is nothing like him, and that he is all-hearing and seeing. Man is not having these traits, and Jesus was a man.

Qur’an 43:57-59 “And when the son of Mary was presented as an example, immediately your people laughed aloud. And they said, "Are our gods better, or is he?" They did not present the comparison except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute. Jesus was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.”

Allah is stating that Jesus was a servant that he anointed (chosen and blessed).

Qur’an 57:3 “He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate, and He is, of all things, Knowing.”

Allah is stating that he is the first, last, and knows all things. Allah is eternal, always existing.

Qur’an 59:23-24 “He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”

Allah is the only deity there is, perfect, all-powerful, superior in every way, and nothing is comparable to him, and everything belongs to him.

Qur’an 112:1-4 “Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.”

Allah states he is the only God, always existing – eternal, is not born, nor does he have children, and nothing is comparable to him.
