Is Jesus God? Part 36: "Jesus Sinned"

Return to the previous - Part 35: "Jesus was tempted, but God cannot be tempted"

Islam teaches that the Prophets were free from sins, and as humans could make mistakes, but not in matters of the religion, because they were divinely appointed and guided.  This however; does not mean they become Gods themselves because of it.

When reading the Old Testament, you will find it degrading the prophets and vilifying them with major sins such as adultery, murder, drunkardness, incest and more.  We do not believe that God makes such poor judgments of character to give people with sins divine revelations, or expect anyone to believe what they say to be true if so.  Would you take the words of a criminal that lacks morality, if he told you he was given the words of God? Of course not, it is common sense really!  We do not believe these righteous people ever committed such atrocious sins in Islam.

The New Testament doesn’t do justice to Jesus either.  Let’s look as what the Bible says negatively about Jesus:

Regarding Baptism

Christians teach that baptism is a public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ and surrender to him. Interestingly, baptism is viewed differently amongst various Christian denominations, which you can read about here . Some denominations view it as a ‘washing away of sins’. Mark 1:4 “And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”

Some denominations say it is obligatory for salvation, while others say it is not obligatory for salvation.  It is also viewed as an initiation rite into the fellowship of the local church of believers. Bishop Stephen Neill has said it this way: "The New Testament knows nothing of membership in the church by faith alone, without this accompanying act of obedience and confession." [i]

Mark 1:9 “In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.”

The big questions to ask are:  Why did Jesus get baptized?  Was he leaving behind sinful ways? Was he accepting himself? Was he needing acceptance into the church?  All of these questions seem unrelated to the need for Jesus to have done it.

Matthew 3:15 “But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.”

Here in this verse Jesus tells John that it is the way to fulfill righteousness.  Was he not already righteous, and had to become righteous? Really? If Jesus was God, there is no need for a baptism at all!

Regarding Lying and Deception About going to the Temple

John 7:1-12 After these things Jesus was walking in Galilee, for He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.  Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was near.  Therefore His brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see Your works which You are doing.  “For no one does anything in secret when he himself seeks to be known publicly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”  For not even His brothers were believing in Him.  So Jesus said to them, “My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune. “The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its deeds are evil.  “Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.” Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee. But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret. So the Jews were seeking Him at the feast and were saying, “Where is He?” There was much grumbling among the crowds concerning Him; some were saying, “He is a good man”; others were saying, “No, on the contrary, He leads the people astray.”

Jesus told them that he was not going, and after they left, he also went, in secret.  This is stating he lied to them and deceived them. Both are sins.

Luke 19:27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.”

Jesus was against murder, and adultery, and other major sins, but here we see him telling people to kill those that refuse to be ruled by him.  Parable or not.  The Matthew Henry Bible Commentary states it clearly.

Regarding that he would kill a harlot’s children

Revelations 2:22-23 Behold, I will cast her onto a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer great tribulation unless they repent of her deeds. Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.”

Jesus is taught by Christians to be merciful for sinners yet, here he is saying that this woman that refused to repent would suffer from his command, and that he would KILL her children! What did the innocent children do?

Quran 17:15 “Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.”

Allah states in the Qur’an that no man suffers for the sins of their ancestors or others. It is not fitting for an all-loving, fair and just ‘god’ to punish people for sins of others.

Jesus drank wine while it was forbidden

Mark 14:25 "Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

Jesus states he will STOP drinking wine, meaning he drank it beforehand, despite that it was forbidden to drink wine in over 70 verses in the Bible. Isaiah 28:7 “And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions”. (See also  , Leviticus 10:9 which says it is forbidden as a lasting ordinance, Proverbs 20:1 Hosea 4:11 , etc).
