Is Jesus God? Part 22: "Jesus regarded God’s testimony as separate from his own"
By: Shannon Abulnasr © 2017 Dawahmaterials.com
Return to the previous - Part 21: "Jesus’ teachings were from God, NOT Jesus himself"
John 5:31 ““If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.”
Jesus told his followers that if he (Jesus) bears witness of himself, then his record is not true! (Contradicts John 8:17-18 )
John 7:16-17 “So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. “If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself.”
If Jesus is God, then it would be his own teaching, but he says it isn’t his teaching, but only God’s.
John 8:17-18 “Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true. “I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.” (This directly contradicts John 5:31 )
Continue reading all the way to verse 59 to get the whole context, because Jesus repeatedly states that he is the son of MAN, and that he doesn’t act on his own, or speak of his own self, that God speaks to him, because he was ‘sent’ by God, to tell the people to worship God, and how to get to know God. He never claims he was God.)
John 8:49-50 “Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. “But I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges.”
Jesus says he is not seeking his own glory, therefore, God and his glory are not the same. He also is stating that only God judges.
John 8:54 “Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.”
Is God not able to glorify himself? Jesus is stating that it means nothing if he does it himself, and what matters is that God glorifies him, and that God is another entity, with different authority. If he is one in the same as God, equal in a trinity, then even God’s testimony would not be true. It’s quite a conundrum.
John 10:25 “Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father's name testify about me,”
He is repeating that he is not doing things of his own, but what the Father says to do. If he is God, he doesn’t need instructions or direction.
John 12:49 “For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken.”
If Jesus is God, he would not say that he is not speaking of his own self, but is instead speaking of what God had commanded him to say.
John 14:24 “Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”
Jesus says his words are not from himself, but from God. If he was God, then they would be his own words. He is clearly distinguishing himself from God.
Qur’an 5:46 “And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.”
Jesus was SENT as a messenger and prophet, teaching the same message as the prophets and messengers before him.
Qur’an 5:116 “And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.”
On Judgment Day, Allah will have Jesus testify about what he taught mankind, and Jesus will tell them that he never told anyone to worship him or his mother. He admits that he does not know all, and that only Allah knows all.
Qur’an 6:106 “Follow, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allah.”
Allah tells Muhammad that there is no God but Allah, and not associate with those that worship anyone or anything else. Muhammad was to follow the message Allah gave him, just like Jesus and other messengers.
Qur’an 19:29-30 “So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”
Allah (God) has told us that Jesus was indeed a servant of God, a messenger and prophet.
Qur’an 43:63 “And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allah and obey me.”
Allah tells of when Jesus brought his proofs, which Jesus told the people he was given the word of God, and to fear God, and obey him, because he was commanding what was given to him by God. He did as God commanded him to do.
Qur’an 57:27 “Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.”
Allah states that he gave Jesus a message from him, but those followers of Jesus innovated things that were not from Allah.
