Return to the previous - Part 15: "Jesus worshiped and prayed to God"

Hebrews 3:1-2  “Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.”

Jesus is called an apostle and a priest.  Is God an apostle and priest? This verse also declares that Jesus was appointed and faithful to God, so is God needing to be faithful to himself?

John 4:23 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (See also John 16:23 and Luke 11:2 )

He says the people will worship only god, not Jesus.

John 16:23 “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.”

If Jesus is God, then why wouldn’t we ask him after a certain time? He distinguishes himself and what he can do from God.

John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

He never said he was God, but that God sent him, and indicates that he and God are not the same.

Luke 11:2 “He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.”

Jesus tells others to pray to the Father, not himself.

Mark 12:29 “"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

Jesus is saying “our” God, not “me”.  This means God was above Jesus, and the Lord of Jesus.

Matthew 15:9 “They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'"

He says people will worship him and it will be in vain, because it is the teachings of men.

Matthew 19:17 “”Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

Jesus can’t make it any clearer than this!  He says that only GOD is good when they said him (Jesus) about what was good…he corrected them!

Qur’an 3:51 “Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path.”

Allah is my God, and your God.

Qur’an 5:46 “And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.”

Jesus was SENT as a messenger and prophet, teaching the same message as the prophets and messengers before him. He told them to worship only God.

Qur’an 5:72 “They have certainly disbelieved who say,"Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.”

The Jews believed that the Messiah would be a man, which is in agreement with Islam.  However, the Christians believed that Messiah meant that he would be divine, hence making Jesus the Messiah.  Islam teaches that Jesus is the Messiah, but rejects that Jesus is divine, and not son of God, nor God himself.  In this verse, Allah is rebuking those that make Jesus to be God, and tells of Jesus’ teachings for mankind to worship Allah, who was the Lord of Jesus, and their Lord.

Qur’an 5:76 “Say, "Do you worship besides Allah that which holds for you no [power of] harm or benefit while it is Allah who is the Hearing, the Knowing?"

Allah says he is the only to be worshipped, that nothing else is of benefit.

Qur’an 5:116 And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.”

On Judgment Day, Allah will have Jesus testify about what he taught mankind, and Jesus will tell them that he never told anyone to worship him or his mother. He admits that he does not know all, and that only Allah knows all.

Qur’an 6:102 “That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.”

There is no deity – only Allah, to be worshipped.

Qur’an 6:106 “Follow, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allah.”

Allah tells Muhammad that there is no God but Allah, and not associate with those that worship anyone or anything else.

Qur’an 9:30-31 “The Jews say, "Ezra is the son of Allah"; and the Christians say, "The Messiah is the son of Allah." That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved [before them]. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded? They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.”

Allah explains how Jews said God had a son named Ezra. (Some of the Jews claimed this, but not all of them). The Christians claimed Jesus was his son, and the Christians went to the extent to claim Jesus was God.  He explains that they are only following the teachings of people, and not God, because God told them to only worship HIM.

Qur’an 25:3 “But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or resurrection.”

Allah rebukes those that worship others (creation), who are not able to create anything. Jesus was creation, yet by miraculous way, but still created, and should not be worshipped, because he is part of creation.

Qur’an 29:17 “You only worship, besides Allah, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides Allah do not possess for you [the power of] provision. So seek from Allah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."

Allah rebukes those that pray to and worship others, telling them that it is all in vain, because only Allah can do what they are asking for.

Qur’an 43:63 “And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allah and obey me.”

Allah tells of when Jesus brought his proofs, which Jesus told the people he was given the word of God, and to fear God, and obey him, because he was commanding what was given to him by God. He did as God commanded him to do.
