Return to Part 5 - "God is not a son of man"

Hebrews 2:6 “But there is a place where someone has testified: "What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?”

Jesus is described like his brothers. (See also Hebrews 2:10 )

John 6:27 “Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."

Here we see two things, 1- that Jesus is called ‘son of MAN’, 2- that God gave Jesus his seal of approval.

John 8:28 “So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.”

We see two things here, 1- he was son of MAN, 2- he does nothing of his own will, and only says what God has taught him.  Does God need another God to teach him? Is Jesus incapable of doing anything on his own if he is God?

John 12:23 “But Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.”

Jesus is calling himself ‘son of MAN’.

John 13:31 “When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.”

Jesus is saying he is ‘son of MAN’ and that he was glorified by God.  Does God need to glorify himself if Jesus is God?

Luke 9:22 “And he said, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life."”

Again he called himself son of MAN. If Jesus was God, he can’t die, as God can’t die, nor be killed by humans.

Luke 9:44 “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”

Again he called himself son of MAN.

Luke 11:2 “He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.” (See also John 4:23 and John 16:23 )

Jesus instructed his disciples to worship only God, and not himself or the Holy Ghost.  Jesus also says ‘your’ kingdom, not ‘my’ kingdom.  Why would he not say ‘my’ kingdom if he is God?

Luke 18:31 “Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.”

Jesus calls himself son of MAN.

Luke 22:70 “They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You say that I am."

Others were calling him the son of God, and he told them that it was they who say that, not himself about himself.

Luke 24:7 “The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'”

Jesus calls himself son of MAN.

Mark 2:10 “But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." So he said to the man.”

Jesus is called son of MAN, and also that he has authority to forgive sins.  However this contradicts Luke 23:34 .

Mark 2:27-28 “Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. “So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.””

Jesus calls himself son of MAN, and must observe the Sabbath…Does God need to observer the Sabbath?

Mark 8:31 “He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.”

Again he called himself son of MAN.

Mark 9:31 “because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”

Again he called himself son of MAN.

Mark 10:32-33 “They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. And again He took the twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to happen to Him, saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and will hand Him over to the Gentiles.”

Again he called himself son of MAN.

Mark 14:21 “The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

Again he is called son of MAN.

Matthew 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.”

Again called Son of MAN.

Matthew 17:22 “When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”

Jesus calls himself son of MAN.

Matthew 20:17-18 “As Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death”

Again he called himself son of MAN, and will face death. God can’t die.

Matthew 24:30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.”

Again he called himself son of MAN.

Matthew 26:2 “As you know, the Passover is two days away--and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."

Again called son of Man.

Matthew 26:24 “The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

Again called son of Man.

Qur’an 2:87 “And We did certainly give Moses the Torah and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Pure Spirit. But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel], with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? And a party [of messengers] you denied and another party you killed.”

Allah gave Mary a miracle, a son (of mankind), to be a messenger and prophet of God, that he gave his message to, for him to share it with the Children of Israel.

Qur’an 4:157 “And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.”

Jesus was son of Mary (mankind) and a messenger and prophet of God.

Qur’an 4:171 “O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Allah is not having a trinity, as he does not need help. Jesus was a messenger (given the word of God) and prophet.  Allah is one without partners, nor does he have a son. He can manage things by himself. Jesus was a son of mankind (Mary).

Qur’an 5:72 “They have certainly disbelieved who say,"Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.”

The Jews believed that the Messiah would be a man, which is in agreement with Islam.  However, the Christians believed that Messiah meant that he would be divine, hence making Jesus the Messiah.  Islam teaches that Jesus is the Messiah, but rejects that Jesus is divine, and not son of God, nor God himself.  In this verse, Allah is rebuking those that make Jesus to be God, and tells of Jesus’ teachings for mankind to worship Allah, who was the Lord of Jesus, and their Lord.

Qur’an 5:75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.”

Jesus is the Messiah ((anointed one (blessed and chosen by God), which does not = God)), was only a messenger like others before him. Allah states Jesus ate food because God does not need food, to differentiate the idea that Jesus is part of a trinity as God.

Qur’an 10:68-69 They have said, "Allah has taken a son." Exalted is He; He is the [one] Free of need. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. You have no authority for this [claim]. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know? Say, "Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed."

Allah rebukes those that claim he had a son, as if he needed help, or needed a son at all.

Qur’an 19:19-21 “He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy." She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "

The angel Gabril (Jibril) (the messenger angel) told Mary, that God was giving her a son, through a miracle, that he would be a sign for people to believe he was a messenger and prophet of God. (Jesus was not God because of this miracle virgin birth.)

Qur’an 19:29-30 “So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”

Allah (God) has told us that Jesus was indeed a servant of God, a messenger and prophet.

Qur’an 19:34-35 “That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.”

Allah says Jesus was son of Mary (son of mankind), and that Allah does not need a son, because he is all-powerful by himself. He can command something and it is done.

Qur’an 21:91 “And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.”

Jesus was created by a command, and through the Spirit (Angel Gabriel/Jibril), she was given a son while a virgin to be a miracle for those that knew him, that he was a messenger and prophet sent by God.
