Return to Part 4 - "God is not a man"

Ezekiel 2:1-5 “Then He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!” As He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me. Then He said to me, “Son of man, I am sending you to the sons of Israel, to a rebellious people who have rebelled against Me; they and their fathers have transgressed against Me to this very day. “I am sending you to them who are stubborn and obstinate children, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ “As for them, whether they listen or not—for they are a rebellious house—they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Here we see God telling Ezekiel that he is ‘son of man’ (same as Jesus was called).  It also says the spirit entered him, and he was also called a prophet…also as Jesus was stated to be a prophet too. (See the section called ‘Jesus was a prophet sent by God’, to see those verses.)

Ezekiel 3:17 “Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me.”

Ezekiel, son of man, is told by God that he was ‘appointed’.  He also said he appointed Jesus.  So if we claim that Jesus is God because he was appointed and was also a son of man, then this would mean we must also consider Ezekiel God as well.

Job 25:6 “how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot-- a human being, who is only a worm!”

Bildad is telling Job that humans are maggots and worms.  According to the Matthew Henry Commentary of this verse , he says: “Bildad shows that man cannot be justified before God. - Bildad drops the question concerning the prosperity of wicked men; but shows the infinite distance there is between God and man…Man's righteousness and holiness, at the best, are nothing in comparison with God's.” Even Christians admit that Jesus died, thus being a mortal, because if he was God, he would be immortal and never die in the first place, much less needing to be raised back from the dead.  By this explanation, that would be calling Jesus a maggot and worm!

John 5:27 “And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.”

He is called the Son of Man.

Mark 2:10 “But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." So he said to the man.”

Jesus is again said to be Son of MAN, and that he was given authority.  Does God need to give himself authority? Why can’t God just forgive himself? Does he need help?  This also contradicts verses that say that Jesus couldn’t do anything himself, and that he asked God to forgive them, so why didn’t he just do it himself if he was given that authority? Luke 23:34 “Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.”

Jesus is saying he needs God to forgive them, so if he was given authority to judge and forgive, then why can’t he just do it himself.

Matthew 12:40 “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Jesus is referred to as Son of MAN.

Matthew 16:27 “For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.”

Again, Jesus is said to be Son of MAN.

Matthew 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.”

Jesus is referred to as Son of MAN.

Numbers 23:19 “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (ESV)

God is not a man, nor son of mankind.

Psalm 80:17 “Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself.”

It states twice in one sentence that he is a man, and son of man.  It goes further to say that God raised him up to him, so does God need to be raised up to himself? Does God sit next to himself?  This poses a contradiction because of the claim that Jesus is God in human form on Earth, but why would God need to be in human form in heaven?

Psalm 144:3-4 O LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.”

Can God be equivalent to a man? It states man's days are basically limited, God is eternal and always existing.

Revelations 1:5 “and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth…”

Can God be born, or be faithful to himself?

Romans 8:29 “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”

Can God be born and have brothers and sisters?

2 Samuel 7:13-14 (Solomon) – ““He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. God is not a man. “I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men.”

God is not a man, clearly stated. God will correct his creation.

Qur’an 4:171 “O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Allah is not having a trinity, as he does not need help. Jesus was a messenger (given the word of God) and prophet.  Allah is one without partners, nor does he have a son. He can manage things by himself.

Qur’an 5:72 “They have certainly disbelieved who say,"Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.”

The Jews believed that the Messiah would be a man, which is in agreement with Islam.  However, the Christians believed that Messiah meant that he would be divine, hence making Jesus the Messiah.  Islam teaches that Jesus is the Messiah, but rejects that Jesus is divine, and not son of God, nor God himself.  In this verse, Allah is rebuking those that make Jesus to be God, and tells of Jesus’ teachings for mankind to worship Allah, who was the Lord of Jesus, and their Lord.

Qur’an 19:19-21 “He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy." She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "

The angel Gabril (Jibril) (the messenger angel) told Mary, that God was giving her a son, through a miracle, that he would be a sign for people to believe he was a messenger and prophet of God. (Jesus was not God because of this miracle virgin birth.)

Qur’an 21:91 “And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity, so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.”

Jesus was created by a command, and through the Spirit (Angel Gabriel/Jibril), she was given a son while a virgin to be a miracle for those that knew him, that he was a messenger and prophet sent by God.

Qur’an 112:1-4 “Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him.”

Allah states he is the only God, always existing – eternal, is not born, nor does he have children, and nothing is comparable to him.
